The competition works to equip young minds
with the skills that will help Alberta successfully compete
in a changing world. This is accomplished through innovative
programs targeted at junior high, senior high and post-secondary
students including apprentices. |

BUILDING TALENT |

The competition, designed like an Olympic style event,
provides an opportunity for students to showcase their
technical skills. By participating in many different contest
areas, students will be able to demonstrate to future
employers their tremendous potential in a work environment. |

BUILDING AWARENESS |

The competition works with employers, educators, labour
groups and the government to reposition trade and technical
careers as a first choice career option for youth in Alberta.
This emphasizes the importance of trade technology based
careers. |

Established in September of 2005, the Southeast Alberta Regional
Skills Canada Competition was brought to the region’s
high schools through the creation of a labour market partnership
consisting of:

- Alberta Employment and Immigration

High School students from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Regional
Division No.3, Grasslands Regional Division No. 6, Medicine
Hat Catholic Regional Division No. 20, Medicine Hat Public
School District No. 76, and Prairie Rose School Division No.
8 are offered the opportunity to compete in several contest
areas. The competition showcases participants engaged in practical
challenges designed to test the skills required in trade and
technology related occupations.
Industry plays a major role providing the expertise required
to design contest scopes and judging based on industry standards.
Contest areas for 2012 include: Automotive Service, Cabinetry,
Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Junior Hairstyling, Intermediate Hairstyling, TV/Video Production, and Welding.
